RECOMMENDATION:
Staff is recommending the hiring of Dan Christoferson for employment as a winter seasonal employee for
the Public Works Departments at $15/hr. through April 1, 2018.

Dan Christoferson is being recommended as a winter seasonal employee for the Public Works
Departments. Dan was the only person to submit an application in the five weeks that staff had the
position advertised on both the League of Minnesota Cities and the City of Otsego websites. He is currently
working for the City of Elk River Parks Department and was highly recommended from his supervisor.
Staff is also recommending that we move forward with this position because we are currently asking that
three Utilities Department staff assist in snow removal operations. If we get snow during the week it puts
too much reliance on the Utilities Department that has other required duties to complete on a daily basis.
This position will relieve some of the burden snow removal activities places on Utilities Department staff.
Staff has requested that this be a 40 hour per week position through April 1St. These additional hours will
provide additional staffing for snow removal clean-up, on-call shoveling, ice rink maintenance, park
clearing, storm water work, etc. and will be funded through Streets/Parks Part-time employee funds. Dan
has completed and passed a background/driver's license check and drug test.
The Administrative Subcommittee was presented with this information at the Nov. 6th meeting and
recommended that it be placed on consent agenda.
