RECOMMENDATION:
City staff is recommending that the City Council approve the hiring of Julie Weiers for the vacant
Accountant position.

BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
The Accountant position has been vacant since October 19, 2017 due to a resignation from the previous
employee.
City staff placed advertisements on October 3, 2017 with the League of Minnesota Cities (online) and with
the Minnesota Government Finance Officers Association (online). The position was also posted on the
City's website. The deadline for applications was Thursday October 26, 2017.
The City received 34 applications. City staff reviewed the applications, scored the applicants and offered
interviews to 6 applicants. City Administrator / Finance Director Flaherty and HR Generalist / Deputy Clerk
Grover conducted interviews on Wednesday November 1, 2017 and Thursday November 2, 2017.
Julie Weiers emerged as the most qualified candidate with the education, skills and experience required of
this position. Julie has passed the required background testing procedures. It is expected that Julie would
start on November 27, 2017.
Based on her qualifications and years of experience, City staff is recommending that:
1) Julie will begin at Step 5 of the respective pay grade for the Accountant position.
2) Julie will be credited with 1 year of service, and will begin accruing PTO of 176 hours annually as
outlined in Section 6-1.1 of the City's personnel policy.
