RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends the purchase of a Ventrac 4500z with attachments for the price of $52,637.07 from
Cushman Motor Company Incorporated.

BACKGROU ND/J USTIFICATION:
City Staff have identified the need for a machine that has the versatility to plow sidewalks with different
attachments, mow steep banks, and collect landscape debris. A machine with this capability would be
able to replace entire pieces of equipment with one attachment, allowing the equipment to be utilized
year-round.
With the recent new development, the City has added sidewalks along storm water ponds and City
utilities. The City also maintains mowed areas with slope angles that are at the capacity of its current
equipment to mow safely. Furthermore, the City maintains several landscaped areas that require
annual vegetation removal and disposal.
The Ventrac 4500z would allow staff to utilize a variety of attachments throughout the year to increase
efficiency and safety. There are also several attachments that are available for rent which allows the
City to purchase only the attachments that would be utilized on a frequent basis.
During the CIP review, staff had originally listed the quote for the Ventrac as $48,000, with a net cost of
$29,000 once all of the replaced equipment is sold. Staff has refined the recommended attachments,
and also updated the estimates for the equipment that will be replaced and sold. The updated quoted
price is $52,637.07, with an estimated net cost of $24,737.07 once all of the replaced equipment is sold.
Staff is recommending this equipment for purchase to allow for an early January 2018 delivery date.

This item was brought before the Public Works Sub-Committee at their November meeting. The
Committee voted unanimously to recommend that the City Council approve the purchase of the Ventrac
machine with the updated quoted price of $52,637.07.
