ITEM 5.2ITEM 5.2 TO: Parks and Recreation Commission FROM: Connie Schwecke, Recreation Administrative Assistant DATE: December 14, 2017 RE: Spring/Summer Program Guide 2018 Background: Staff are currently working on the 2018 Spring/ Summer Program Guide. In past years, the Parks and Recreation Commission have provided feedback and comments on the upcoming programs and events. Potential New Programs for 2018: Adventure Race o This program is a partnership with the City of Otsego, Monticello and Becker. Details for this program are still being worked on, however, it does appear that the program will take place in July over a two week period. This program may include families completing challenges and receiving points for each completed challenge. Teams that complete all challenges will be eligible for a grand prize. Ninja Warrior Camp o This program would be done in conjunction with Ninja's Unlimited. They are opening a new program in Maple Grove. We are working with them to offer a program that would be base one time per week out of their maple Grove location. Kids Mud Run o We are currently working with the owners of the Kimball Mud Run to offer a mini mud run during the summer at Prairie Park. Picnic with the Parks and Rec Commission o During the summer months, the Parks and Rec Commission meetings will once again be held at different city parks. The area residents will be invited and a free picnic dinner of hotdogs and chips will be served. Knocker Ball League o This program will be done in collaboration with Jump City. o City staff has requested a meeting in January with the owner of Jump City to finalize the details of the program. Soccer League for Middle School o City Staff are currently planning this program Returning Programs for 2018: TBall, Soccer/Sport Camps, Tennis, Tumbling, Dance, Cheer & Porn Camps, Golf, Archery, Flag Football, Taekwondo, SOAR Theater, Adventures in the Parks, Adult Fitness, Touch a Truck and Entertainment in the Park. Conclusion: Staff is requesting that the Parks and Recreation Commission review the material included in this memo and make recommendations for the 2018 summer program guide. 2
