1. Call to Order
Public Safety Commission Chair Chuck Schauss called the meeting to order ta 6:30 PM.
Roll Call:
Mayor Jessica Stockamp, Council Member Jason Warehime
Public Safety Commissioners: Bill Abderhalden, John Braun, Jim Breitbach, Paul Fields,
Greg Hubbard, Deb Schreiner, and alternate Melissa Westervelt
Others Present: Albertville Deputy Fire Chief Jeff Davis; Elk River Fire Department Deputy Chief
Aaron Surratt, Wright County Sheriff Deputy Eric Thole
2. Approve Agenda
Breitbach moved to approve the Agenda, seconded by Fields. The motion carried unanimously.
3. Approve 11/14/17 Meeting Minutes
Abderhalden moved to approve the November 14, 2017 Public Safety Commission Meeting
minutes, seconded by Schauss. The motion carried unanimously.
4. Open Forum
Westervelt was welcomed to the Commission.
Fields asked for information regarding a recent daytime burglary. Warehime said a homeowner
left their property for twenty minutes, and the burglar was in the house upon their return.
5. Public Safety Police / Fire / Ambulance Updates
a) Albertville: Davis said there were only three calls (including one cancellation) last month.
One was a townhome off 76th Lane that had a smoke alarm going off. The owner was not
home. Firefighters forcibly entered, but found no smoke. Firefighters did thermal imaging
throughout the home. Advised owner to have furnace checked.
b) Elk River: Surrat said last month was quiet in Otsego for his department as well. They are
seeing an increase in EMS assists over last year.
Surrat also discussed the fire academy training. Twenty-seven recruits remain. Graduation
will be on March 17. He encouraged the Public Safety Commissioners to attend. More
information will be forthcoming.
Surrat said they are in the process of replacing Engine One (a 1997 model). The new engine
is due around the first of the year. The old engine will be kept in reserve.

c) Wright County Sheriff: Thole said there have been lots of complaints about cars parked
on the streets overnight when plows are out. Nothing else occurred out of the ordinary.
Thole said the former Timothy’s Conference Center is now renting rooms on a weekly and
monthly basis as an “Extended Stay” establishment. Mayor Stockamp said she does not
believe they have a rental license. They did not pass the inspection. She will have the City
Administrator look into the matter.

8. City Council Meeting Updates
Mayor Stockamp said the City Council approved submittal of the application for a Fire Services
Planning Grant through the State Fire Marshall’s Office at the 12/11/17 City Council meeting.
Those applications are due by January 31, 2018. If the grant is awarded to Otsego, the City will
advertise for Requests For Proposals for a Master Plan Fire Service study, with findings due back
by July 2018.
9. City Council Meeting Assignments
There will be no City Council meeting on 12/25/17 in observance of the Christmas holiday.
Paul Fields will attend the 1/8/17 City Council meeting.

Fields moved to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Schauss. The meeting adjourned at 7:08
PM.
