1. Call to Order
Public Safety Commission Vice Chair Bill Abderhalden called the meeting to order at 6:30 PM,
Roll Call: Mayor Jessica Stockamp, Council Member Jason Warehime
Public Safety Commissioners: John Braun, Paul Fields, Greg Hubbard, Deb Schreiner
New Public Safety Commission Alternate: Melissa Westervelt
Others Present: Albertville Fire Chief Eric Bullen, Albertville Deputy Fire Chief Jeff Davis, Elk
River Fire Chief T. John Cunningham, Wright County Sheriff Deputies Thole and Walker
Public Safety Commission Chair Chuck Schauss and Member Jim Breitbach were not present.
2. Approve Agenda
Fields moved to approve the Agenda, seconded by Hubbard. The motion carried unanimously.
3. Approve 10-10-17 Meeting Minutes
Fields moved to approve the October 10, 2017 Public Safety Commission Meeting minutes,
seconded by Braun. The motion carried unanimously.
4. Open Forum
Melissa Westervelt was recently appointed to serve as an Alternate on the Public Safety
Commission. She is employed as the Assistant City Attorney for the City of Coon Rapids.
5. Public Safety Police / Fire / Ambulance Updates
a) Wright County: Deputy Walker said the only item of note is the new three-way stop sign
at County Roads 19 and 39. Deputy Thole said activity in the City has been fairly normal.
Fields asked whether they patrol the river landing at Nashua. Thole said they do.
b) Elk River: Fire Chief Cunningham discussed several motor vehicle crashes. Two people
incurred injuries, and one accident involved property damage. There were no major fires.
Cunningham also discussed:
1. Activities with area schools;
fl. The recent ISO evaluation of the entire fire service district and the potential impact
of additional fire stations and deployment of resources;
iii. A toy drive now going on with drop off locations at the 101 Market and both fire
stations. The goal is to gather 500 gifts for area children.
iv. The Fire Academy is going well. Cunningham invited the Public Safety Commission
members to attend any time. There are 29 students in this class. He will notify the
Commission regarding the graduation time and date.

c) Albertville: Chief Bullen said October has been quieter after a busy September.
1. There was an unauthorized burning at the Riverwood Convention Center. Someone
started a bonfire. Fortunately, it got rained out.
ii. The Kadler water main is now working. Residents should let their insurance
companies know that there is a working fire hydrant near their homes.
iii. Albertville has three firefighters enrolled in the Elk River Fire Academy.
d) Rogers: Fire Chief Brad Feist was not present.

6. Old Business
a) Fire Station Study: Mayor Stockamp said City Administrator Adam Flaherty will meet this
week with the Fire Chiefs and the fire station study consultant regarding a fire station
study.
7. New Business
No new business was discussed.
8. City Council Meeting Updates
There were no updates related to public safety.
9. City Council Meeting; Assignments
November 27: Paul Fields
December 11: Bill Abderhalden
December 25: There is no City Council meeting due to the Christmas holiday.

Fields moved to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Hubbard. The meeting adjourned at 6:55
PM.
