Staff is recommending the purchase of an F-550 chassis from Midway Ford to be used in the sign/boom
truck replacement.

BACKGROUND/J USTI FICATION:
The 2018 CIP includes the replacement of the 1999 F578 Boom/Sign truck. The truck was purchased used
in 2009 for $9,676. The primary uses of this truck are for: sign maintenance, tree trimming and light
nd
maintenance. As of Jan. 2 , the truck had 112,317 miles on it. Staff has been working with ABM
Equipment and Truck Utilities on a build -out for this truck. Both companies require that the equipment be
installed on a F-550 chassis that must be purchased separately and prior to the build -out portion of the
build. Truck chassis build times are approximately 12-14 weeks and build-out/outfitting times for the
remainder of the truck are approximately 6-7 months at this time so staff would like to get this build
process started.
Staff has been working with Midway Ford on specifications for the truck in coordination with ABM
Equipment and Truck Utilities to assure the chassis would work for either company when we get to that
point in the build process. Staff is still working with those companies on exact specifications for the build-
out and will be bringing a recommendation for that build -out at a later date per Public Works
Subcommittee direction.
We have requested and received a 2017 state contract quote from Midway Ford for the F-550 chassis at a
price of $45,382. The 2018 state contract for these types of truck chassis has not been released yet but is
expected in the next couple of weeks. Staff is recommending purchasing the F-550 chassis from Midway
Ford for the 2017 state contract price of $45,382.
The Public Works Subcommittee was presented with this information at the Dec. 2 oth meeting and
recommended that it be placed on consent agenda
