BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
The 2018 CIP includes the purchase of a tree and brush chipper for the public works department. Staff had
the opportunity to demo a number of different sizes and brands of chippers this past fall. We were able to
demo a Vermeer BC1000XL from RDO Equipment Co. and an Intimidator 12XP Brush Bandit from Tri-State
Bobcat. Both of these machines are drum style chippers equipped with 90 horsepower, 3.OL gasoline
motors with a 12" material capacity. Both of these machines are very similar in their operating systems but
staff felt that the Vermeer BC1000XL was a safer and overall more user-friendly machine to operate. Both
companies have got the respective chippers readily available and staff would like to have the chipper right
away in 2018 to continue tree trimming operations in addition to doing clean-up along Otsego Creek from
the heavy wind events we had this summer.
Staff has requested quotes from RDO Equipment Co. and Tri-State Bobcat. Both companies submitted
state contract of NJPA contract quotes of $29,356.00 and $31,812.50 respectively.
Staff is recommending that we purchase the Vermeer BC1000XL from RDO Equipment Co. for the NJPA
contract price of $29,356.00. The Public Works Subcommittee was presented with this information at the
Dec. 20th meeting and recommended that it be placed on consent agenda.
