Staff recommends approval of quote from E. H. Renner & Sons, Inc in the amount of $27,849.25 for
supplying and installing a new motor and pump in Well #7.

BACKGROUND/J USTI FICATION:
Staff has obtained two quotes for a new pump and motor to be installed in Well #7 capable of supplying
1100 gpm to Water Tower #2 (west side). The two quotes are as follows
EH Renner Thein Well
Alternate 1 (Franklin/Gould) $27,849.25 $28,585.00
Alternate 2 (contractor submittal) $25,409.25 $25,135.00
Although the quotes for the Alternate #2 proposals were a bit less expensive, Kurt and I reviewed the
pump curves for those pump and motor combos and determined they were steeper and thus less desirable
than the Franklin/Gould combo. The City has several Franklin motors in wells already and they have shown
to be quite reliable. The pump curve is more flat allowing for more flexibility if needed (i.e. more gpm or
more total dynamic head is encountered).
Therefore, we recommend the E.H. Renner & Sons, Inc. quote of $27,849.25 for the 100 hp Franklin motor
and Gould pump combo.
Attached is the preliminary project cost breakdown of the overall 2017 West Side Water Project. With this
quote we are expecting the project to come in considerably below the CIP budget. The only portion of the
project remaining is the interior modifications to Pumphouse #4.
