RESOLUTION
CITY OF OTSEGO
County of Wright
State of Minnesota
RESOLUTION RECOMMENDING THE NAME OF THE SCHOOL BUILDING TO BE BUILT - BY
INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 728 TO BE OTSEGO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.
WHEREAS, the name of the town and city of Otsego is derived from the
language of the Iroquois nation of Native Americans; and
WHEREAS, many of the early white settlers who homsteaded Otsego originated
from the county of the same name located in the State of New York;
WHEREAS, Otsego was the name officially given to the township in 1858;
WHEREAS, Independent School District No. 728 ("ISD 728") has for several
years planned to construct a school facility within the corporate limits of the
City of Otsego; and
WHEREAS, the corporate limits of the City of Otsego are the same as the
former Otsego township; and
WHEREAS, the City of Otsego was recently incorporated as a statutory city
pursuant to an Order of the Minnesota Municipal Board; and
WHEREAS, various Otsego community organizations and the city government of
Otsego are striving to develop community pride and a positive community iden-
tity; and
WHEREAS, ISD 728 has consistently identified at least one school building in
each city located within the district boundaries with that city, for example,
Rogers, Zimmerman, and Elk River;

THEREFORE, LET IT BE RESOLVED,
That the City Council of the City of Otsego requests that the new school
building located within the City be named the Otsego Elementary School.
