City staff is recommending the City Council approve the quote from Street Smart Rental for the purchase of
a traffic information sign board trailer.

BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
The 2018 Fleet CIP includes the purchase of a traffic information sign board trailer. The purchase of this
piece of equipment was originally recommended by members of the safety committee to be used by all
departments in a variety of roles. Staff looked at a variety of message boards and have identified two that
would suit our needs well. Those models are the Ver -Mac PCMS-548 and the Addco DH250. Both of these
trailers have fully programmable message boards, radar and data logging capability. The main difference
between the two are the operating systems. The Ver -Mac model utilizes an on -board touch screen similar
to an iPad where the Addco machine is all done remotely through either a smart phone or computer.
Staff requested state contract quotes from Street Smart Rental for the Ver -Mac PCMS-548 and from
Warning Lites for the Addco DH250 and received quotes of $16,475 and $14,250 respectively. Staff feels
that even though the Ver -Mac is $2,225 more than the Addco machine it is still a better option to pursue
because the operating system on the Ver -Mac is much easier to operate with the on -board touch screen.
Staff is recommending that we purchase the Ver -Mac PCMS-548 from Street Smart Rental for $16,457.
This amount is under the $16,500 that was budgeted for the purchase.
The Public Works Subcommittee was presented with this information during the February meeting and
recommended that it be placed on consent agenda.
