RECOMMENDATION:
Staff is recommending the City Council approve the quote from Midway Ford for the purchase of a 2018
Ford F-250 pickup.

BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
The 2018 Fleet CIP includes the replacement of BD19, a 2006 Chevrolet extended -cab pickup. As of Feb.
15th, the truck had 82,646 miles on it and was rated a 15 in our vehicle rating system. Staff is
recommending replacing this truck with a 3/4 ton for increased payload and towing capabilities. Staff is
also recommending that we continue to purchase Ford pickups like we have in the past for increased
efficiencies in fleet management practices.
Staff has requested and received a state contract quote from Midway Ford for the price of $29,631.84 for
this vehicle. They have offered the city $2,500 for the trade-in of the 2006 Chevrolet. Staff has reviewed
current comparable vehicles on local government auction sites and is confident that we can receive a
better return putting it out to auction. Staff is making the recommendation to purchase the truck from
Midway Ford for the state contract price of $29,631.84 and placing the 2006 Chevrolet on auction. Net
amount for the vehicle is anticipated to be $27,131.84 or less depending what the vehicle brings at auction
which is less than the $27,600 budgeted for the purchase of the truck.
The Public Works Subcommittee was presented with this information and there was discussion to set the
reserve minimum for the truck at $2,500 which was the original trade-in amount of the vehicle and
recommended that this be placed on consent agenda.
