City staff is recommending City Council approve the replacement of a submersible pump and variable
frequency drive at the Quaday Lift Station.

BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
The 2018 Utility Budget identified $23,000.00 for a pump replacement at the City's Main Lift Station
located at Quaday Ave and CSAH 42. The site is a triplex lift station, housing three submersible pumps
which move approximately 300,000 gallons of sewage to the East Wastewater Treatment Facility on a daily
basis.
Two of the three pumps were installed in 2009 and have met service life expectancies and no longer meet
flushing velocities required of the 12" forcemain. A single vane impeller pump was installed in 2017,
replacing the oldest of three pumps.
Three options meet velocity requirements and two were considered by staff. WW Goetsch provided a
quote of $22,890.00 for the Fairbanks equipment. Electric Pump provided a quote of $32,401.50 for the
Flygt equipment. Staff is recommending the low quote from WW Goetsch.
Quotes were also obtained for the required variable frequency drive equipment and installation. Electric
Pump provided a quote of $3,673.70 and Ideal Electronic provided a quote of $3,402.00. Staff is
recommending the low quote from Electric Pump at $3,673.70.
The combined equipment purchases and installation services will total $26,563.70, which exceeds the
budgeted amount of $23,000.00.
