Staff recommends that we have Central MN Dust Control complete the 2018 dust control application.

BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
Each year, the City applies dust control chemicals to the most heavily traveled gravel roads in the city. In
addition to that, 500' sections are also treated upon request from residents if they agree to pay for that
portion of the application. For 2018, we are recommending full-length applications to McAllister Ave., 83`d
Street and 60th Street. We have also received three private requests which will be paid for by those
residents. 1,000' of 96th Street and 500' of 62nd Street are being recommended for application. The Parks
and Recreation Department has also requested to have approximately 1,300' of dust control applied to the
soccer field drive which has also been accounted for in this year's total amounts.
The 2018 dust control project is estimated at 28,473 lineal feet of gravel road/parking lot to be treated
with approximately 15,375 gallons of chemical. Staff has requested quotes from Central IVIN Dust Control,
LLC and Envirotech Services, Inc. and received quotes of $.91 and $1.04 respectively. Total estimated costs
were $13,991.25 from Central MN Dust Control, LLC and $15,990 from Envirotech Services, Inc.
Staff is recommending that we have Central MN Dust Control, LLC complete the 2018 dust control project
at an estimated cost of $13,991.25. Funding for the full-length applications will come from the Streets
Department General Fund and the private requests will be paid for by the requestors. The Public Works
Subcommittee was presented with this information at the April 18th meeting and recommended that it be
placed on consent agenda. Staff was also directed at this meeting to treat the entire length of Kadler
Avenue from 80th St. to 70th St. to be paid for by the developer for the industrial park project, and this will
be addressed at the project pre -construction meeting.
