Eagle Scout ProposalOtsego Heroes Memorial "For those who serve our Community and our Country" Summary of Project The mission of this project is simply this, to provide a physical reminder of the importance of heroes, those who serve others, in our community and worid. The goal of this Eagle Scout project is to create a memorial consisting of engraved pavers. The pavers will be purchased by members of the community and engraved with the names of people who are serving or have served as a public services employee or volunteer, or as a member of the armed forces. Examples include teachers, police, national guard members, and army veterans, etc. This memorial will be placed in the center island of the roundabout at Prairie Park, in Otsego, MN. The pavers will be placed on the opposite half of the island from the existing armed forces memorial in order to enhance its position as a centerpiece of the island, but also to provide space for future projects in the island. My project will be the installation of the first batch of engraved pavers as well as blank pavers to serve as place holders for future engraved pavers. Concept Design Cross Section of Edge of Memorial Sample Order orm Ordering of the pavers will be done through the city website and will be paid directly to city. Example Form: 1 st Line of Text: Name of person being memorialized, Position/job Dennis Fiala, U.S_ Nary 2nd Line of Text Q it i_ovirg Merrory Thank You For Your Service 0 You Are A N ero 3rd Line of Text: Donated by The Mize Family Example Brick: Dennis Fiala, U.S. Navy Thank You For Your Service The Mize Family J Pavers • Pavers will be Holland Caramel -colored Pavers • Dimensions for pavers are 41)x8"x3" • Cost for per paver $0.77, with engraving $32.77 • To help pay delivery and tax $40 would be charged per paver Holland pavers (Not caramel colored) Continuity MY design calls for 480 pavers My goal is to have at least 380 ordered. So, in order to eventually fill the memorial with engraved pavers, blank pavers will be placed temporarily as placeholders. The blank pavers can easily be removed by prying them out with flathead screwdrivers. It is easiest to remove multiple at the same time. The new paver can simply be stuck in the old ones spot. To settle it in place sand will need to be swept over it. The ordering mechanism used for the original pavers can be left active to facilitate the ordering of additional pavers. Because the engraving services are cheapest when at least 7 pavers are ordered, I would recommend waiting for a threshold between future orders. Hedberg Supply, the company through which the first order will be placed would be recommended to ensure homogeneity between the old and new pavers. hope to leave substantial funds to be put towards placing future pavers and expanding the memorial. To do this we will reach out for donations from groups like the Otsego Lions, Trail Riders Club, and Otsego VFW.
