BACKG ROU N D/J U STI FI CATI O N :
Staff has recently concluded interviews for the Fleet Maintenance Technician, which will become vacant on
July 27th due to a retirement. The City received 13 applications with only 5 of the 13 meeting the minimum
qualifications. Of those 5, staff ultimately interviewed only 3 of the applicants because they did score
significantly higher on their respective applications.
After the interviews were concluded, staff felt that Michael Hanzalik was the most qualified for the
position. He is currently a Fleet Technician for the City of Brooklyn Park and has been there since 2014
with a lot of other good mechanical background to offer. His reference check calls all went very well and
he has passed the required background check and pre-employment drug testing. Staff is recommending
that Michael Hanzalik be hired as the Fleet Maintenance Technician at a Grade 8, Step 5 because of his
skills and experience in this position. The Public Works Subcommittee was presented with this information
at its June 20th meeting and recommended that this be placed on consent agenda.
