RECOMMENDATION:
City staff is recommending City Council approve the emergency purchase of the East Public Water System
municipal well 8 variable frequency drive equipment, it's shipping and related labor.

BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
An emergency Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) purchase was required for the East Public Water System
Well #8 on Monday August 13th.
The VFD equipment replacement was due to a sudden internal electrical failure of existing equipment.
Two purchases were conducted; the first was an immediate purchase of a new matched drive not in stock
and second was the purchase of a used matched drive which was installed, programmed and functional
that Monday afternoon. This used drive, when changed out for the new will provide redundancy support
of the City's other 100 horsepower well motors.
The emergency purchases were needed to maintain the East Public Water System pressure and fire
protection as the failed drive was not repairable. High summer demands and August heat provides
sufficient strain on the system to lower storage levels to emergency levels. Well #8 is our largest water
production well of 1200 gallons per minute and is needed to meet supply demands.
Expenditures include:
New VFD, freight and labor — Ideal Drives - $13,465.00
Used VFD—estimate $2,700.00, excluding labor
