City staff is recommending the City Council approve Andy Lindenfelser for the Utility Seasonal Maintenance
Worker position.

BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
The 2019 Utility budget includes $33,587.00 dollars for two seasonal positions supporting the Department.
Staff recommends the position be instituted in series to provide access to a seasonal throughout the year.
This strategy provides the City a good source of candidates from the graduating Water Environment
Technologies Program in June and the possibility to bring back January to June the following year.
The current seasonal position was initiated June 18th and will end on December 14th of this year. Staff is
recommending the current seasonal be brought back January 15th, 2019 for a seasonal role with the
department ending July 15th, 2019. The strong job market, experience, reduced training required and
operator licensure recommend a wage $14.00 per hour; in line with the Seasonal, Temporary and Part -
Time Employees Pay Plan established in 2017. Seasonal positions are not benefited vacation, health or
P E RA.
Responsibilities will include operations and maintenance of the wastewater treatment facilities, snow
removal, distribution maintenance, hydrant work, valve maintenance, equipment operation, sampling with
process and regulatory labs, lift station rounds and maintenance, housekeeping, documentation, meter
reads and repairs.
