RECOMMENDATION:
City staff recommends approval of an ordinance amending the City Code to address alcohol consumption.
ARE YOU SEEKING APPROVAL OF A CONTRACT?
IS A PUBLIC HEARING REQUIRED?
No
No
BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
City staff identified that the park and trail rules outlined in Title 8, Section 7 of the City Code do not address
alcohol consumption within City parks. City policy has been that alcohol consumption by persons of legal
age is allowed within City parks limited only to non -glass containers. This unwritten policy is in conflict
with the provisions of Section 5-1-9 of the City Code which makes consumption of alcohol within City parks
a public nuisance unless specifically authorized. City staff has drafted an amendment to Section 8-7-3 of
the City Code to state this policy as ordinance.
