RE: Spring/Summer Program Guide 2019
Background:
Staff are currently working on the 2019 Spring/ Summer Program Guide. In past years,
the Parks and Recreation Commission have provided feedback and comments on the
upcoming programs and events.
Potential New Programs for 2019:
Drive in Movie
o The movie will be held at the south side of the Prairie Center Parking Lot.
The movie screen will be strapped on the top of the flatbed trailer and the
logistics for the sound need to be researched and implemented. Plans for
a family movie will be offered and a food truck will be available for
concessions.
Farmers Market
o Staff are in the beginning stages of planning an Otsego Farmers Market.
Staff will meet with a contact from the area that has experience running a
Farmers Market. City Staff will also be contacting the Home Growers
Association to gain access to vendors who want to sell their produce and
products.
Rec on the Go
o This is a program that many Parks and Rec departments' offer where
recreation staff travel to different neighborhood parks throughout the
summer months and offer organized and themed games. This is a drop in
program to help kids stay active.
Nature Base Programs
o Since Otsego has many natural resources, City Staff are currently
developing some Nature Base curriculum programs that will be offered
throughout the year.
Returning Programs for 2019:
TBall, Soccer, Basketball & Sport Camps, Tennis, Tumbling, Dance, Cheer & Pom
Camps, Golf, Archery, Flag Football, Taekwondo, SOAR Theater, GASS, Canoe
Trips, Adult Fitness, Touch a Truck, Pizza Dinner with Parks and Recreation
Commissioners and Entertainment in the Park.
Conclusion:
Staff is requesting that the Parks and Recreation Commission review the material
included in this memo and make recommendations for the 2019 summer program
guide.
