hot box.

BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
The 2019 Fleet CIP includes the purchase of a roll -off chassis mounted asphalt hot box. This unit will be
used in the City's blacktop patching operations. It will allow a smaller crew to go out and do skin patching
throughout the City. This piece of equipment has many features that will help with efficiency such as:
diesel heated burners, integrated tack oil system, auger system to deliver material to a low shoveling
height and insulated -power doors to cover and retain heat. This unit will be used on the City's roll -off truck
and can be used throughout the year.
Staff has spoken with many of our surrounding communities about what is the best unit and they have all
recommended the Stepp Manufacturing. The Stepp STPH 4.0 is the size that recommended for our roll -off
truck and can hold approximately four yards of asphalt.
Staff has requested a state contract quote from Stepp Manufacturing and received a quote of $63,773.
This amount is less than the 2019 budgeted amount of $66,962. Staff is recommending that the City
purchase the Stepp STPH 4.0 from Stepp Manufacturing for the state contract price of $63,773.
The Public Works Subcommittee was presented with this information at its December 19th meeting and
recommended that it be placed on consent agenda.
