RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends appointing an elected official to represent the City of Otsego for the Annual meeting
between Region 7W agencies included in the MET Councils Transportation Planning Area.

BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
Each year the MET Council and Region 7W Public agency representatives that have areas within the MET
Councils transportation planning area meet to discuss projects proposed within the Region 7W jurisdiction
that us within the MET Councils Transportation Planning Area. In an effort to work with the public agencies
within Region 7W (Elk River, Otsego, St. Michael, Albertville, Hanover, Wright County and Sherburne
County), MET Council has agreed, per a MOU, that they will allow Region 7W funding to be allocated by the
Region 7W Transportation Policy Board with guidance from the Region 7W Technical Evaluation Panel. At
this meeting, MET Council staff reviews those decisions and will bring to the MET Council for approval.
The MET Council and Region 7W public agencies within the areas of the MET Councils transportation
planning area also discuss projects and priorities of the MET Council as a whole and which projects the MET
Council is undertaking that may have direct impact on the Region 7W members. Region 7W members also
have an opportunity to discuss areas of concern regarding problem areas they or their constituents see in
regards to transportation.
This year, the Annual MET Council Meeting with Region 7W is on Wednesday March 20th @ 4:00 pm at
Wright County Highway Department in Buffalo. Each Region 7W Public Agency is asked to send a technical
staff person in regards to transportation along with an elected official. The technical staff person is
typically the City Engineer and I have attended these for several years. The elected official is typically
anyone from the City Council who would like to attend and has the time to attend.
