AGENDA ITEM DETAILS RECOMMENDATION: City staff is recommending that the City Council consider the provided options for street light replacements. ARE YOU SEEKING APPROVAL OF A CONTRACT? IS A PUBLIC HEARING REQUIRED? No No BACKGROUND/J USTI FICATION: In January 2018, the City of Otsego entered into an Asset Transfer Agreement with Elk River Municipal Utilities (ERMU) to transfer ownership of certain street lighting systems within the City of Otsego. These lighting systems were located in Waterfront West, Waterfront East and Great River Centre. There are approximately 100 total lights within these three development areas. City staff was recently informed by ERMU of their desire to begin replacement of the street light system within Waterfront West, where there are 29 lights being considered for replacement. This development is being considered for replacement due to multiple reasons. The first is that there are currently multiple damaged lights that need to be replaced; and second, that finding replacements for the existing lights is very difficult and also very expensive. ERMU has provided the City with two potential options for replacement of the existing lights. The first option is a "cobra" style light that is a more contemporary looking light, and there is no cost to the City for this option. The second option is an "acorn" style, and would be considered more of a traditional looking light, and is considered to be an upgrade, and the City would be responsible for $1,000 per light. In accordance with the terms of the Asset Transfer Agreement, the City has input in this process. The Public Works Subcommittee was presented with this information at its April 17th meeting and recommended that it be brought before the Council for discussion.
