BACKGROUND/J U STI FI CATI O N :
This is a continuation of this topic from the April 22, 2019 meeting. At that meeting, City staff was directed
to determine:
- How the funds in the Above Standard Street Lighting Fund can be used by the City.
- Whether any additional lighting choices were available through ERMU.
City staff has had discussions with staff from Elk River Municipal Utilities, who verified that they will only be
able to offer the two street lighting options to the City, those being: 1) the cobra style; 2) the acorn style.
ERMU staff mentioned there are 1,000 + of the cobra style lights within their system, and that those are
now the standard. ERMU staff also mentioned there are currently fewer than 100 of the acorn style lights
in their system, which will expand with the downtown replacement and possibly with the future Highway
169 project.
City staff has not been able to verify authorized uses for the funds remaining in the Above Standard Street
Lighting Fund and will continue to research this matter.
City staff is not providing a recommendation or seeking any direction, rather just providing an update.
