Recommend accept from the City of Elk River, on a temporary basis, hockey boards to be used
at the Prairie Park Skating Rink.

BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
In 2014, the City of Elk River will be hosting Hockey Day Minnesota at the Handke Pit. Due to
the increased level of play, The City of Elk River will be taking out their smaller rinks and
installing one big rink. The Parks Department in Elk River has graciously offered one of the two
sets of hockey boards for the ice rinks to the City of Otsego to use on a temporary basis. In
return, the City of Otsego will store the hockey boards and hardware at the Public Works
facility.
The purpose of installing the rink at Prairie Park would be to gauge how much participation a
hockey rink would generate without having to purchase one first. There will be no other costs
incurred by the City in relation to the hockey boards other than their installation and
redirection of the lights.
At the October Parks and Recreation Commission meeting, the Commission voted to
recommend that the City Council accept the hockey rink on a temporary basis to be used at
Prairie Park during the 2013-2014 skating season.
