BACKGROUND/J USTI FI CATI O N
The City Council approved the Deputy Clerk job description on September 23 and authorized
advertisement of this full-time position. City staff placed advertisements in the Star News, online with the
League of MN Cities and also on the City website. The advertisement identified an application closing date
of October 24. The City received 17 applications, which were reviewed and scored.
Interviews were offered to 6 of those applicants, and were conducted by Kathy Grover, Human Resources
Generalist; Kary Tillman, City Clerk/Treasurer for the City of Zimmerman and myself. All three members of
the interview panel agreed to move forward in the hiring process with Bethany Benting.
Bethany is coming from Independent School District No. 728 and City staff feels her attention to detail and
ability to multi -task in a fast environment will be beneficial for this position. As an educator City staff feels
she will have the ability to handle absentee voting and be a positive addition in the training of the election
judges and interaction with residents on election day. She also is very well -rehearsed in computer
software which will be beneficial with the job duties expected of this position.
Bethany has passed the required background testing procedures. It is expected that Bethany would start
on Monday, January 6.
