BACKGROUN D/J USTI FICATION:
The 2020 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) included a budget of $57,540 to landscape newly installed
roundabouts within the City. Landscaping of these roundabouts achieves the strategic vision goal of
creating a distinctive, connected community known for its beauty and natural surroundings. Furthermore,
this project would achieve one of the Parks and Recreation System Masterplan Goals under its Natural
Resource section, by restoring and providing natural areas.
City staff developed a number of landscape design options, and obtained quotes for that work. The focus
of the landscaping is prairie plantings that would involve minimal maintenance while providing
beatification to streetscapes and pollinator habitat. Staff have included black and white conceptual designs
for the 4 proposed roundabouts. Staff have also included photos of similar roundabouts in Monticello.
City staff has obtained quotes from Midwest Landscapes in the amount of $57,759 for this project, which
includes both labor and materials for the project. The information was reviewed by the Administrative
Subcommittee at April 2020 meeting with recommendation for approval by the City Council.

Motion to accept the quotes from Midwest Landscapes in the amount of $57,759 and to authorize the
project for the landscaping of the four roundabouts, located at: CSAH 38 & Odean Avenue; CSAH 38 &
Oakwood Avenue (CR 137); 85th Street & Nashua Avenue; and 85th Street & Maciver Avenue.
