ITEM 3.6D Parks 12.11.2013 Minutes1 T E M 3 r E> OTSEGO PARRS AND RECREATION OTSEGO PRAIRIE CENTER December 11, 2013 7:30 PM Call to order. Chair Torresani called the meeting to order at 8:01 PM. Roll call; chair Peter Torresani; commissioners: Charles VonBerg, Angie Dehn, Doug cassady, Mike Brumm, Jim Breitbach and Brian Fahey. Absent: commissioner Susan Krekelberg. city council: commission member Vern Heidner= Mayor Jessica Stockamp arrived at 8;14 PM. Staff: Ross Demant, Parks and Recreation Manager, Connie Schwecke, Recreation Assistant and Sandy Lindenfelser, Special Licensing. 1. open Forum. No Itemsx Z. consider agenda approva Commissioner cassady motioned to approve as written. Seconded by Commissioner VonBerg. All in favor. Motion carried. 3.1 November 13, 2013 Regular Meeting Minutes. Commissioner Dehn motioned to approve as written. Seconded by Commissioner Fahey. All in favor. Motion carried 4. Unfinished Business. 4.1 Naminci of Parks in Waterfront East and Davis Mississippi coves= Parks and Recreation Manager Demant presented. The Heritage Preservation Commission carne up with the name Waterfront Park -- Carrick"s Landing. Commissioner VonBerg asked Why not just shorten the name to Carrick"s Landing? Parks and Recreation Manager Demant said we still Want to incorporate "Waterfront East". chair Torresani said the name is too Iong and more important than that, he doesn't want landing included in the name because there is no landing. commissioner VonBerg stated that Landing is part of the name because it is referring to What it was. Commissioner cassady said that people will Just refer to it as Waterfront Park anyway, so Why not leave it. commissioner Fahey asked how Waterfront East ended up in the name. Parks and Recreation Manager Demant stated that this is the name of the development. The name can be switched around to Carrick"s Landing -- Waterfront East. commissioner cassady said there Will be landings on either side. Name it Carrick"s Waterfront Park. Davis Mississippi cove is named after Joseph Davis and the Heritage Preservation Commission would like to incorporate Davis in the naming of this park to be Davis Farm Park. chair Torresani said looking at this as a natural park, keep the name but don't include farm since it is not a farm. Parks and Recreation Manager Demant mentioned Davis Nature Trails or Davis Nature Preserve as a couple of possibilities. Commissioner Brumm motioned that city council name that Park located at Waterfront East development "Carrick's Waterfront Park" and the park located at Davis/ Mississippi cove development "Davis Nature Preserve". Seconded by Commissioner VonBerg. All in favor. Motion carried. 4.2. Santa Day. Parks and Recreation Manager Demant presented. All the decorations for Santa Day were brought to Prairie center, cookies, apple juice, hot cocoa and coffee will be served. candy canes will also be handed out again. Quality Photo will be here as well as the sleigh rides. Any leftover candy canes and cookies will be donated to the food shelf; CAER Food Shelf of Elk River and the Snowmobile club will be at Santa Day. The Cub Scouts are planning on helping this year. Set u will be Friday, December 20th at p g p g y p 6:30 PM. The Santa Day event will run from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Saturday December 21, 2013. 5. New Business. No Items 6. Parks and Recreation Manager Up date. Parks and Recreation Manager Demant gave an update. The rinks are being flooded and should be ready to be skated on December 12th. The city of Rogers has allowed us to borrow a set of their hockey nets this season. A craft show is scheduled at Prairie center on Saturday, December 21, 2013 that will include approximately 30 venders. 7. city council Reports. Mayor Stockamp gave an update. Commissioner Brumm gave his resignation and stated this would be his last meeting. Parks and Recreation Manager Demant thanked commissioner Brumm for his 10 years of service to the Parks and Recreation commission. Parks and Recreation Manager Demant said that commissioner Brumm has also been helping out with the flooding of the hockey rink and that this has been a big help. 8. Adjourn.
