City staff is recommending that the City Council approve the hiring for the Utility Operator position.

BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
The 2021 Utility Budget includes a full-time staff addition to support the Utility Department with
operations and maintenance of the water and wastewater facilities and infrastructure. The East
Wastewater Treatment Facility Biosolids Building is operational, the West Wastewater Treatment Facility
design initiated and added infrastructure triggered the staffing addition. The position recommended is a
licensed operator to continue the specialized approach and succession planning. The individual will be
cross trained in all aspects of the department including on-call rotation when prepared.
Four applicants were interviewed for the position providing recommendation of Renee Devries. She is a
recent graduate of the Water Environment Technologies program from the St. Cloud Technical College.
Background and screening tests are successfully completed. Compensation is recommended at Pay Grade
6, Step 1.
The Public Works Subcommittee was presented with this information at their June 16 meeting, with
recommendation for consideration by the City Council.
