City staff is recommending that the City Council approve the hiring for the Utility Seasonal Maintenance
position.

BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
A utility seasonal was hired late February and worked through June 4 until finding a full-time position
outside of the City. Within the interview process for a fulltime Utility Operator, a strong candidate for a
future full-time hire interested in fulfilling a seasonal position with the department was identified.
Austin Schiller is available to begin work June 29th with successful background and substance testing.
Austin has multiple years of storm and sewer cleaning experience providing recommendation of $17.50 per
hour; in line with the Seasonal, Temporary and Part -Time Employees Pay Plan. Seasonal positions are not
benefited vacation, health or PERA.
Responsibilities of the position includes operations and maintenance of the wastewater treatment
facilities, snow removal, collection and distribution maintenance, hydrant work, valve maintenance,
equipment operation, sampling with process and regulatory labs, lift station rounds and maintenance,
housekeeping, documentation, meter reads and repairs.
The Public Works Subcommittee was presented with this information at their June 16 meeting, with
recommendation for consideration by the City Council.
