RE: Otsego —Police Commission Map
TPC FILE: 101.01
City staff has prepared an updated map showing both McGruff House locations and
Adopt -A -Street routes for use by the Police Commission. A copy of this map is
attached for review by the Police Commission at their meeting on 17 August 2010.
Related to the Adopt -A -Street program, City staff has identified potential streets shown
on the map that a person or group could propose to maintain. It is noted that groups
doing cleanup to be sensitive to the developed areas on Maclver Avenue, Odean
Avenue, and 78t" Street so they don't go onto private property if the Police Commission
includes these routes as being available to volunteers.
The Public Works Department also receives inquiries about volunteering to clean up
along County roads. These roadways are some of the most visible and highly traveled
in Otsego. Wright County has established it's own Adopt -A -Highway Program that
involves groups cleaning up along their route three times per year. There is also a Pick -
A -Highway program that requires clean up only once a year. The Wright County
program does not include recognition of the volunteer group with a sign on the highway
route like Otsego's program does. City staff is seeking direction from the Police
Commission and City Council as to whether the City's Adopt -A -Street program should
include County roads which may draw more interest from local businesses and groups
because of these routes greater visibility and greater benefit of the sign recognition
offered by the City program.
