Mary Klauda of MHS met with Joy, Norm and Elaine on February 13.
She quickly identified the old township records which must be pre-
served under Minnesota law. Some of these were packed and sent to
MHS with Mary as we had no immediate interest in the material. Two
cartons of such records were left in our custody to permit us to
make copies before sending them to MHS. MHS will provide us with
a complete inventory of all records they are storing so that we
can access the material when we need it. Several cartons of rec-
ords that do not have to be retained are stored in the "back room".
We may keep these or destroy them.
Joy and Gwynn Schwanbeck attended the Elk River Celebration meet-
ing. Their parade will end in Otsego at LeFebvre's. We are res-
ponsible for traffic control and security within Otsego. Joy sta-
ted she has arranged for this. Elk River would like Otsego to par-
ticipate in their celebration August 10 and 11. Elaine suggested
we build a float simulating a river ferry boat to illustrate the
earliest connection between the two settlements.
Otsego Parks & Rec Commission has expressed interest in taking
part in our next Heritage Day. Norm moved we invite Jeff Barthel
to attend our March meeting -.to discuss this. Janet seconded; mo-
tion carried. The date for the next Heritage Day was chosen; first
choice; Sunday, September 29; second choice; Sunday, October 6.
Joy will reserve the facilities.
The book "The House That Kirscht Built" by Paul Allen Fine has
information about many of Otsego's early families. Norm moved that
we purchase a copy; Janet seconded; motion carried.
