Meeting - Thursday, March 28, 1996
Otsego City Hall
The meeting was called to order at 7:15 by Chair, Joy Swenson.
Members present: Arlene Holen, Frieda Lobeck, Joan Nichols, Elaine
Norin, Norman Schwanbeck and Joy Swenson. Janet Bridgland absent,
excused. CM Suzanne Ackerman attended after the special Council
meeting had adjourned.
Minutes for the February 22 meeting were corrected to add: "Norman
Schwanbeck was appointed to chair the committee to plan the next
annual Heritage Day." Norm moved to accept the minutes as corrected;
Frieda seconded; motion carried.
Joy reported that she and Gwyn Schwanbeck attended the Elk River
Celebration meeting. She will fill out the form for our entry in
the parade. There will be $3,000.00 in prizes for the band compe-
tition, a trading post and many interesting activities.
Norm stated he needs to know before the "third Thursday" if we need
funds for the float in the parade. He may be able to obtain some.
Joy stated we can get Parks, Jaycees or Lions to make the float.
Arlene moved to advise the City Council that we have designated the
McDonald -Peavey house as a historic preservation site. Norm secon-
ded; motion carried.
We were advised that the Parks Commission wanted to use the old town
hall building and move it to their area. Elaine moved that we recom-
mend to the City Council that the old town hall be made available to
the Parks Commission for their use; that it be properly identified
by a plaque and that the general character of the building be main-
tained. Seconded by Norm; motion carried.
Discussed possibility of putting the information about the 332 pio-
neer families collected by Elaine, into book form. Joy will investi-
gate and report back at the next meeting.
Norm reported that the City Hall is available Sunday, October 6 for
our next Heritage Day. The Parks Commission met with him and reques-
ted that we change to a date in July and put it on as a joint effort
with their commission. Elaine moved that we decline their request
and plan for Sunday, October 6; seconded by Frieda; motion carried.
Norm requested that we all bring to our next meeting the names and
addresses of people we wish to invite to Heritage Day.
The meeting adjourned at 9:55 pm.
