Members present: Arlene Holen, Frieda Lobeck, Joan Nichols, Elaine Norin, Norman Schwanbeck and Joy Swenson. Janet Bridgland absent - excused. Suzanne Ackerman, City Council Member was present. Norm moved to approve minutes of the April 25 meeting; second by Joannie. Motion carried. Joy reported on the Elk River David Faribault celebration plans for August 11. Elaine Beatty, City Clerk advised her that a group of ALP (a special school program) students want to participate in the parade. They are Junior High; pro- bably about age 13. She does not know how many there are in the group. They will be available from the beginning of June for about a month. A long discussion about the float resulted in a decision to use pictures from the cover of the 1992 calendar and those of the ferry near Dayton obtained from Ellen Bouley by Elaine Norin. Joy stated that we could use their 12 x 24 foot trailer and that she will contact Mae Spencer for help in designing it and Bob Spencer to provide a tractor to pull it. Joy stated we have enough money in our budget for material needed. It was suggested that we have a horse and buggy or vintage car on the float. Joy will also call Harlan Rask, Gary Sorenson and Gone Kreuser about building the float. The question of insurance was raised but no information was available. It was suggested that we have "passengers" in old fashioned costumes ride on the float. Joy will find out whether we should have candy to throw or hand out during the parade. She will also prepare a memo for the city council outlining our plans. Joy will continue to try to reach Harlan Rask to advise him of our plans to update the cemetery records with assistance from the Eagle Scout candidate. It was decided to send invitations for Heritage Day no later than September 10. Norm and Elaine volunteered to sort out the pictures now stored in the Heritage room. Elaine agreed to call Bob Holt to find out if he would use his camcorder to take pictures at Heritage Day. Joy and Norm reported on the workshop they attended. They found it very inter- esting and worth while. Arlene moved to adjourn; seconded by Norm. Motion carried. The meeting was adjourned at 8:45pm. n Elaine Norin, Secretary
