Meeting - Thursday, December 19, 1996
Otsego'City Hall
The meoting was called to order at 7:05 pm by Chr. Joy Swenson. Members present
were: Arlene Holen, Frieda Lobeck, Joan Nichols, Elaine Norin and Joy Swenson.
Janet Bridgland and Norman Schwanbeck absent. Mayor -elect Larry Fournier was
a guest. CM Suzanne Ackerman attended the latter part of the meeting.
Arlene moved to approve the minutes of the November meeting; seconded by Frieda;
motion carried.
Joy advised that the old town hall will be moved by the Parks & Rec. Commission
in the spring after the concrete slab is poured. Joy will check with Andy Davis
who will know where it was originally located and when it was built; information
we need for a plaque to be placed on the building.
Elaine reported 26 Otsego -In The Beginning books on hand at city hall. Joy
has the copies designated for the Minnesota Historical Society and Elk River
library.
Arlene has the new tape recorder and will test it out for use in obtaining oral
histories.
Joy received the forms for the CLG grant application for a survey of Otsego. She
turned them over to Janet who will prepare the application requesting $2,000.00
or $2,500.00. The prelimanary application is due by January 10; the final is
due by January 31.
Joy donated copies of two stories about Marion Davis' father's family who came
from Scotland.
Joan questioned our bylaws which provide for election of our officers in January.
This is difficult as members are not selected by the city council until January.
Elaine moved to change Work Rule #2 to read "February" instead of "January".
Seconded by Joan; motion carried. Joy will write the change and request approval
by the city council. Arlene stated she would prefer to serve as an alternate
member. Joy has talked to Ron Black who will be willing to serve as a member.
Joan reported.that a very old plat book is available and will invite the owner to
a meeting to display it.
Elaine suggested we have small note paper printed with the Otsego logo and
"Heritage Preservation Commission". The city hall return address to be printed
on the envelopes. These would be useful for thank -you notes to people who have
helped the commission.Joy will have city staff arrange to print them.
Elaine obtained a new map of Otsego which shows the recent changes in city boun-
daries with Albertville and Frankfort township. She has marked it with the lo-
cations of 98 historic houses, schools, ferries and islands.
CM Ackerman stated that terms for commission members Arlene Holen and Elaine
Norin are expiring 12-31-96. They should present letters to the City Council
for re -appointment.
