City of Otsego - Heritage Preservation Commission Meeting
Thursday, August 28,1997
CHAIR Joy Swenson called the meeting to order at 7:10 PM. Janet Bridgland, Joanie
Nichols, Elaine Norin, Ron Black, Frieda Lobeck and Arlene Holan were present. Norm
Schwanbeck was absent. Council Member Mark Berning attended.
The third paragraph of the July, 1997 minutes was corrected to read JANET MOVED
TO APPROVE MINUTES AS CORRECTED OF THE JUNE, 1997 MEETING,
SECONDED BY ARLENE. MOTION CARRIED.
The first sentence of the seventh paragraph of the June, 1997 minutes was corrected to
read Elaine said the cemetery book would be ready to print soon and suggested we sell
them at Otscgo Heritage Day.
JANET MOVED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES AS CORRECTED OF THE JULY,
1997 MEETING. SECONDED BY RON. MOTION CARRIED.
Ron reported on the Elk River Parade and Festival. He had one fire truck in the parade. It
was a shorter route this ycar.
Elaine reported on plans for Heritage Day. She handed out a sample program and letter
Of invitation and visitor record (sign up sheet).
Th- menu, press releases and handouts for Heritage Day were discussed.

The cemetery book is approximately 93 pages and ready to print.
RON MOVED THAT ELAINE NORIN ORDER 100 COPIES, SECONDED BY
ARLENE. MOTION CARRIED.
Janet reported on the Context Study. MHS had sent Joy a three page list with 30-40
names. We are sending out a half dozen Request for Proposals. This should be enough
to pick from. We hope to have someone selected by the end of Scptcmbcr of early
October.
Joy will submit the OHPC five year plan with revisions to the City Council.
We discussed the budget and the need to purchase a transcriber.
RON MOVED WE SUBMIT THE SAME FIGURES AS LAST YEAR FOR THE
BUDGET. SECONDED BY JANET. MOTION CARRIED.
RON MOVED WE RENEW OUR MEMBERSHIP IN THE PRESERVATION
ALLIANCE OF MINNESOTA. SECONDED BY FRIEDA. MOTION CARRIED.
Ron said that at Otsego Fun Day he was asked what would happen to the old *Lown hall
and suggested members from our commission work with members from the Park and
Recreation commission. Joy appointed Ron and Norm to work on a subcommittee with
the subcommittee for the park and recreation commission.
Janet moved to adjourn, Ron seconded. The meeting adjourned at 8:55 PM.
