Chair Ron Black called the meeting to order at 7:07 PM. Joanie Nichols, Frieda Lobeck, Elaine
Norin, Joy Swenson, and Arlene Holen were present. Norm Schwanbeck, and alternate Janet
Bridgland were absent. Council Member Suzanne Ackerman was attending a different meeting at
City Hall and came to the OHPC meeting during breaks from the other meeting.
JOY MOVED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE AUGUST 27, 1998 MEETING.
SECONDED BY FRIEDA. MOTION CARRIED.
Frieda gave an updated written report on sales and inventory for the "Otsego - in the Beginning"
and the "Otsego Cemetery" books.
Arlene, Joy and Elaine gave an update on plans for Heritage Day set for October 11, 1998.
Invitations and press releases have been sent. First National Bank provided photo banks.
Marquette Bank donated flowers. Cub Foods donated a $20.00 gift certificate. Arlene received
flags for decorations. Ron handed out maps of Otsego and the bus tour for Heritage Day was
discussed.
JOY MOVED THE OHPC RECEIVE THE HISTORIC CONTEXT REPORT (by Robert Vogel)
AND RECOMMEND THE CITY COUNCIL ACCEPT THE REPORT. SECONDED BY
FRIEDA. MOTION CARRIED.
Elaine reported on the new book "Life at the Brick House". Our cost was $355.71. We paid for
200 copies and received 208 copies. Elaine recommended we donate eighteen books and sell the
remaining 190 at $2.00 each. She suggested donating copies to the following:
Wright County Historical Society
Sherburne County Historical Society
Minnesota County Historical Society
Elk River Library
Monticello Library
Buffalo Library
City of Otsego
Jean Untinen, the present tenant of the brick house
Edith Kiichli Kluge (10 copies)
JOY MOVED TO DONATE THE EIGHTEEN COPIES AS SUGGESTED ABOVE.

ELAINE MOVED TO SELL THE REMAINING 190 BOOKS AT $2.00 A COPY. SECONDED
BY ARLENE. MOTION CARRIED.
The commission deferred discussion about a scanner, wanting to wait for comments from Janet.
Joy recommended we also get ideas and comments from Vem Heidner. Ron will see if Vern can
attend the next meeting.
Ron asked the commission to look ahead now that we have accepted Robert Vogel's historic
context study. What is the next step in preserving our heritage? Joy will call the chair of the Eden
Prairie HPC for information about how they planned for their city. The OHPC will need to tackle
the Preservation Plan that will eventually need to be incorporated into the City's
Comprehensive Plan.
Elaine wanted a cabinet in the heritage room painted and cleaned. Ron volunteered.
Elaine reported that Virginia Wendel donated a picture from 1937 or 1938 with people identified,
students in front of the French school located on Berning's property.
Arlene moved to adjourn. Frieda seconded. The meeting adjourned at 8:05 PM.
We meet again on Thursday evening October 22,1998 at 7:OOPM at City Hall.
