Vice Chair Joy Swenson called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM. Joanie Nichols, Frieda Lobeck,
Elaine Norin, and Arlene Holen were present. Norm Schwanbeck, Ron Black (excused) and
Alternate Janet Bridgland were absent. Council member Suzanne Ackerman attended.
The eighth paragraph of the March minutes was corrected to show the correct spelling of the last
name of Mae Gehrenbeck to be one word. Also the second paragraph of the March minutes was
corrected to show the minutes of the February 25, 1999 meeting were approved.
FRIEDA MOVED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES AS CORRECTED OF THE MARCH 25,1999
MEETING. SECONDED BY ARLENE. MOTION CARRIED.
City Administrator Mike Robertson had sent a memo regarding city council action on requested
scanning equipment. This will be discussed further at the May meeting of the OHPC. Suzanne
Ackerman stated the council had authorized the purchase of a scanner but the purchase has not
been made.
Robert Vogel has agreed to attend the May OHPC meeting to discuss the process for establishing a
Historic Preservation District.
The commission discussed the eight criteria in the city ordinance for designating heritage
preservation sites as applied to the part of the original townsite that includes the Peavey/McDonald
house, the school building and former city hall, and the old town hall. There was a consensus
among those present that numbers 1, 2, 4 and 5 applied and the group was divided as to whether
numbers 3,7 and 8 applied. All agreed number 6 did not apply.
Frieda submitted an updated written book report. A copy is attached.
Joy and Joanie were interested in attending the annual historic preservation conference in St. Peter.
Joy will talk to Ron about making arrangements.
Arlene moved to adjourn, Frieda seconded. The meeting adjourned at 8:30 PM.
We meet again on Thursday evening May 27, 1999 at 7:00 P.M. at City Hall.
