07-22-99 OHPC MINCity of Otsego - Heritage Preservation Commission Thursday, July 22, 1999 Chair Ron Black called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM. Joanie Nichols, Frieda Lobeck, Elaine Norin, Joy Swenson and Arlene Holen were present. Norm Schwanbeck and alternate Janet Bridgland were absent. Council member Suzanne Ackerman attended. ARLENE MOVED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE JUNE 24, 1999 MEETING. SECONDED BY ELAINE. MOTION CARRIED. The cemetery bench was purchased July 1, 1999 at Bachman's. Frieda submitted the receipt for $202.23 to Mike Robertson and the Otsego City Council for reimbursement. Arlene's son has offered to build an arbor maybe by spring. Elaine will make copies of her ideas on the McDonald/Peavey house as it relates to the eight criteria in the city ordinance. Ron asked the commission to come to our next meeting with a list of 5 to 10 sites we think are historic and we'll try to apply the eight criteria to these sights. Heritage Day is reserved on the city calendar for October 3, 1999. Elaine volunteered to coordinate this event with help from the other commission members. JOY MOVED TO RENEW OUR MEMBERSHIP WITH PRESERVATION ALLIANCE OF MINNESOTA (Cost $75.00). SECONDED BY JOANIE. MOTION CARRIED. ELAINE MOVED TO RENEW OUR MEMBERSHIP WITH NATIONAL ALLIANCE OF PRESERVATION COMMISSIONS (Cost $25.00). SECONDED BY JOANIE. MOTION CARRIED. The memo from Mike Robertson dated July 21, 1999 regarding Robert Vogel's Proposal for Local Designation of Historic Preservation Sites will be discussed further at our August meeting when we plan the 2000 budget. Ron will ask the City Administrator for provide a copy of the 1999 budget. Frieda submitted an updated written book report. A copy is attached. Suzanne stated the City Council wants the OHPC to decide about the old town hall. The council is concerned that it is an eyesore and a safety hazard. Suzanne will tell the council the OHPC (Ron) is waiting to get quotes from a lumber company for paint and the roof to stabilize the structure. Elaine wanted to know what happened to the computer/scanner. Ron will check on it. Frieda moved to adjourn, Arlene seconded. The meeting adjourned at 7:55 PM. We meet again on Thursday evening August 26, 1999 at 7:00 P.M. at City Hall.
