07-27-00 OHPC MINCity of Otsego - Heritage Preservation Commission
Thursday, July 27, 2000
Chair Ron Black called the meeting to order at 7:05 PM. Joanie Nichols, Frieda Lobeck, Elaine
Norin, Joy Swenson, Arlene Holen and Norm Schwanbeck were present. Council member
Suzanne Ackerman attended. Keith Knutson also attended.
ELAINE MOVED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF TH JUNE 22, 2000 MEETING.
SECONDED BY NORM. MOTION CARRIED.
Frieda submitted an updated written book report. A copy is attached.
Elaine reported the Holt diary is about 90 typed pages. Ron and Joy suggested scanning it into the
computer.
Harlan Rask is still trying to pick a site for the cemetery bench. We need to have the site identified
(description) by the next meeting.
The Heritage Room at city hall has been rearranged and is now a functional area.
Joy has talked with Maureen Galvin (Wright Co. Historical Society) by phone but they have not
been able to get together to discuss the picture inventory. Hopefully, information should be
available next week.
The commission discussed Elaine's draft of the historical significance of the area which includes
the McDonald/Peavey house, the school building and the Methodist parsonage. Some changes
were made.
NORM MOVED TO ACCEPT THE DRAFT AS CHANGED. JOY SECONDED. MOTION
CARRIED.
Keith Knutson expressed concern about a home in his area in disrepair that he felt was restorable.
The commission encouraged him to ask for a copy of the city ordinance (20-75-5) which list the 8
criteria for a site to be considered for heritage preservation. We told him to review the criteria and
collect facts for the OHPC to consider.
Norm moved to adjourn, Joanie seconded. The meeting adjourned at 8:35 PM.
We meet again on Thursday evening August 24, 2000 at 7:00 P.M. at City Hall.
R sply submitted, Joanie Nichols, Secretary
