08-24-00 OHPC MINCity of Otsego - Heritage Preservation Commission Thursday, August 24, 2000 Chair Ron Black called the meeting to order at 7:05 PM. Joanie Nichols, Frieda Lobeck, Elaine Norin, Joy Swenson, Arlene Holen and Norm Schwanbeck were present. Council member Richard Nichols attended ELAINE MOVED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE JULY 27, 2000 MEETING. SECONDED BY NORM. MOTION CARRIED. Frieda submitted an updated written book report. A copy is attached. Ron spoke with Dan Licht about the narrative for the proposed Heritage Preservation District. Dan will review it and have a draft recommendation for our September meeting. The cemetery bench is not in place yet. RON MOVED THAT THE CEMETERY BENCH SUBCOMMITTEE (ELAINE, FRIEDA AND ARLENE) BRING A PLAT MAP OF THE CEMETERY TO OUR NEXT MEETING WITH AN X TO MARK WHERE THEY'D LIKE THE BENCH. JOY SECONDED. MOTION CARRIED. Heritage Day will be Sunday October 8, 2000. Carol Olson gave Elaine a new mailing list. Elaine will proof it and Carol will make mailing labels. Elaine gave out a draft of the proposed letter of invitation and asked for comments. Commission members should call Elaine with any more comments. Elaine wants to mail the invitations by mid-September. Jacqui Rognli will do a slide show again. Elaine will get a better screen. Joy will contact a possible speaker, Guy Rowe, who is an Otsego resident and was nominated by the Monticello Senior Citizens for Wright County Senior Citizen of the Year. Reprints of some historical highlights articles will be handed out. Ron will run the scanner. Bids were obtained from Kinko's ($1.064.25) and Elk River Printing ($640.00) to print 100 copies of the Holt Diary. NORM MOVED TO HAVE 100 COPIES PRINTED FOR $640.00 BY ELK RIVER PRINTING. SECONDED BY FRIEDA. MOTION CARRIED. NORM MOVED TO RENEW THE MEMBERSHIP WITH PRESERVATION ALLIANCE FOR $75.00. JOY SECONDED. MOTION CARRIED. The proposed 2001 budget for OHPC was reviewed and two changes were recommended by the OHPC. We recommended increasing the amount for dues and memberships from $50.00 to $150.00 and to include $5000.00 for contracted services (for planning and legal services for heritage preservation district designation). Ron and the OHPC have been invited to attend the City Council meeting on August 28 to discuss the budget. Ron asked us to think about areas we need to preserve in the city, particularly in the Eastern part, that we may need to have designated before it's destroyed and developed. Joy moved to adjourn, Frieda seconded.
