05-24-01 OHPC MINCity of Otsego - Heritage Preservation Commission Thursday, May 24, 2001 Chair Joy Swenson called the meeting to order at 7:15 PM. Joanie Nichols, Elaine Norin, Arlene Holen, Frieda Lobeck, Norm Schwanbeck and Sharon Carter were present. Council member Jerry Struthers arrived at 7:45 PM. ELAINE MOVED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE APRIL 26, 2001 MEETING. SECONDED BY FRIEDA. MOTION CARRIED. Frieda submitted an updated written book report. A copy is attached. Joy will call Dan Licht about the progress for the Heritage Preservation District. NORM MOVED THAT THE OHPC HAVE A HERITAGE DAY AND THAT THE CHAIR (JOY SWENSON) ASK PEOPLE OUTSIDE THE OHPC TO HELP. SECONDED BY SHARON. MOTION CARRIED. ELAINE MOVED WE ASK TO HAVE CITY HALL RESERVED FOR HERITAGE DAY SEPTEMBER 23, SEPTEMBER 30 OR OCTOBER 7, BEING 1ST, 2ND AND 3RD CHOICES RESPECTIVELY. SECONDED BY NORM. MOTION CARRIED. Joy will check which dates are available with the city staff. She will also talk to Ron Black to see if he's willing to help with a tour on Heritage Day. Other possible program ideas were discussed. Suggested refreshments were coffee, punch cookies, bars, cheese and crackers. Joy will talk to Mike Robertson to see if it is possible for the OHPC to tourthe McDonald house. The Old Town Hall was discussed. Arlene suggested asking a local contractor, Gene Kreiser, for a ball park figure for the cost to restore it. Joy said that if we are serious about trying to restore it we should also get an opinion from MHS architectural expert Charlie Nelson. Joy will ask him if he can look into this. Arlene will hold off contacting Gene Kreiser. The plaque has not been made yet for the bench at the Otsego cemetery. Correspondence received: 1.
