12-27-01 OHPC MINCity of Otsego - Heritage Preservation Commission Thursday, December 27, 2001 t Chair Joy Swenson called the meeting to order at 7:10 PM. Joanie Nichols, Arlene Holen, Elaine Norin and Frieda Lobeck were present. Sharon Carter was absent. Council member Jerry Struthers was present. Kurt Kragness was a guest. ARLENE MOVED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE SEPTEMBER 27, 2001 MEETING. SECONDED BY FRIEDA. MOTION CARRIED. The meetings for the months of October and November were cancelled. Frieda submitted an updated written book report. A copy is attached. Joy introduced Kurt Kragness, director of the Sherburne County Historical Society and a member of the Elk River Heritage Preservation Commission. Kurt updated us on the activities of the Elk River HPC. They are a CLG and are in the process of having a context study done. Kurt requested a copy of our inventory. Joy had pictures of the dedication on September 23, 2001, of the bench and plaque in the cemetery in memory of Ing Roskaft and all those who rest there. Frieda and Arlene will help to identify some of the people in the pictures. Dan Licht, regarding the historic preservation designation progress for the Cemetery, provided copies of the memorandum and planning report. We will need to pursue this if we will be applying for any grants. Joy will check with the Cemetery Board, and Janet Bridgland. Preapplication grants are due January 18, 2002. Barbara Day's letter dated September 29, 2001 to Elaine Norin was discussed. Barbara had offered to enter information about the cemetery records on the Internet. ELAINE MOVED WE ACCEPT THE OFFER MADE IN BARBARA DAY'S LETTER OF SEPTEMBER 29, 2001. FRIEDA SECONDED. FRIEDA AND ELAINE VOTED IN FAVOR OF THE MOTION. JOY AND JOANIE WERE OPPOSED. ARLENE ABSTAINED. MOTION DEFEATED. Elaine will respond to Barbara Day's letter, explaining that it is still up in the air and ask for some more information about the web address. ARLENE MOVED WE REPRINT 100 COPIES EACH OF "OTSEGO IN THE BEGINNING " AND THE "CEMETERY" BOOKS. FRIEDA SECONDED. MOTION CARRIED UNANAMOUSLY. Elaine will order the books from Elk River Printing. Elaine inquired about the MHS memo dated December 11, 2001 regarding CLG Grants Manual and application forms. Joy agreed to follow up and try for a grant to get tapes transcribed. Frieda moved to adjourn, Arlene seconded. The meeting adjourned at 9:15 PM. We meet again on Thursday evening January 24, 2002 at 7:00 PM at City Hall.
