08-22-02 OHPC MIN11 Ci of Otsego - Heritage Preservation Commission Thursday, August 22, 2002 Chair Elaine Norin called the meeting to order at 6:38 P.M., Sharon Carter, Arlene Holen, Elaine Norin, and Frieda Lobeck were present. Joy Swenson was absent, but excused. Council member Jerry Struthers was present. ARLENE MOVED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE JULY 25, 2002 MEETING AS PRINTED. SECONDED BY FRIEDA. MOTION CARRIED. Frieda submitted an updated written book report. A copy is attached. The heritage celebration, in conjunction with the city festival, will take place on September 21. OHPC will be serving coffee, fruit punch, and cookies. Invitations will be mailed to previous heritage festival attendees. Included will be a flyer regarding the city festival. Elaine is writing her next book, 1880 to 1910 The Family Farm Years. The book is about 400 families who lived in Otsego during those years. She is hoping to complete the book in time to sell at the heritage celebration. Tasks to complete for Heritage Festival: • Frieda and Sharon will fold and place labels on invitations to previous attendees. The city will mail the invitations. • Joy will be asked to pick up coffee cups, cookies, coffee, and ingredients for the fruit punch. • Sharon will make a sign indicating the heritage displays are inside and signs regarding the openings for additional OHPC members • Frieda and Sharon will greet visitors and "man" the sign in table. • Arlene will assist Joy with serving the refreshments. • There will be a table for book sales (the OHPC books and Daisy's don't tell). Elaine and possibly Norm will work at the book table. • We will tentatively plan to set up displays and tables Friday, September 20, at 7:00 P.M. Sharon's husband will probably assist. Elaine will ask neighbors if they will assist. Elaine wrote several letters: • On July 1, she wrote to Michael Day, suggesting the park at Kadler and 101 st be named Lily Pond Park. To date, she has not received a response. • She wrote to the Minnesota Historical Society indicating we will potentially be designating our cemetery a historic site, asking if they could recommend anyone with expertise in cemetery repairs. • She wrote Richard Nichols requesting that OHPC receive upfront information if a potential historic site is subject to modifications or development. Jerry suggested we pass our recommendation regarding the cemetery to the City Council . Per Ordinance 94-9, we first must forward our findings about the cemetery to the Planning Commission for review and approval. Elaine will write a letter to the Planning Commission. The meeting adjourned at 8:00 P.M. We will meet again on Thursday, September 26, 2002 at 6:30 P.M. at City Hall. Respectfully submitted, Sharon Carter, Secretary
