FRIEDA MOVED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE SEPTEMBER 26, 2002 MEETING AS
PRINTED. SECONDED BY ARLENE. MOTION CARRIED.
Frieda submitted an updated written book report. A copy is attached.
The new book that was written by Elaine, The Family Farm Years, cost $15.88 to print. SHARON
MADE THE MOTION TO CHARGE $16.00 PER BOOK. SECONDED BY JOY. MOTION
CARRIED.
At the Heritage Festival, I8 people paid $18.00 per book. It was decided the $18.00 was appropriate
because the price included the cost to mail the book.
Copies of "The Family Farm Years" will be sent to: Wright County Historical Society, Minnesota
Historical Society, Sherburne County Historical Society, the Monticello Library, Buffalo Library, Elk
River Library, Genealogical Parks. One copy will be kept for the OHPC.
A discussion occurred regarding possibly retyping the book "Woman in the Wilderness" before having
additional copies printed. If the decision is made to retype, Joy knows someone who volunteered to
perform the typing.
OHPC has 15 audiotapes. Some are in very poor condition with multiple people talking. Elaine has
decided she will not write any additional books about Otsego. Instead, she will try to interpret the tapes
and type them. If some of the tapes that are easier to interpret, she may apply for a grant and have them
professional typed.
Potential new members:
• Elaine will continue to contact several people who indicated interest in joining the OHPC.
• She will have something written in the Otsego View reflecting there are openings to join the Heritage
Commission.
• Sharon will contact Susan Larson (the Star News) and ask her to put a notice in the paper indicating
we are looking for new members to join the Heritage Commission.
Elaine sent a letter to Dan Licht with a list of potential historical preservation sites. The Elk River Box
Factory was included.
Replies have not been received from letters sent:
• to Richard Nichols (Planning Commission) requesting the OHPC is notified of any new development
that might impact a potential preservation site.
• to Mike Day (Parks & Rec. Commission) regarding the recommendation to rename the city park at
Kadler and 101 st to "Lily Pond Park".
Old Town Hall:
• Arlene asked Eugene Kreuser, experienced builder, to examine the condition of the hall. He
determined it is beyond repair (the entire structure has rotted wood).
• SHARON MOVED TO RAZE THE OLD TOWN HALL. AFTER ADVISEMENT OF A
PROFESSIONAL, THE HALL CANNOT BE REPAIRED. BECAUSE OF THE POOR
CONDITION OF THE STRUCTURE, THERE ARE ALSO HEALTH AND SAFETY ISSUES. JOY
SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION CARRIED.
• Members of OHPC will meet at the hall on Friday, at 4:00 P.M. Pictures will be taken inside and out.
A suggestion was made to salvage some pieces of the building and keep them as an example of the
original structure.
• Sharon will send a thank you from the OHPC to Eugene Kreuser.
Elaine ordered a supply of 150 sheet protectors for pictures at the cost of $79.99. JOY MOVED TO
