Co-chair Joy Swenson called the meeting to order at 6:45 P.M., Sharon Carter, Ron Black, Jean
Schneider, Joel Coles, and Jeannine Christiansen were present. Elaine Norin was absent, but excused.
Chris Wilson was absent. Council member Jerry Struthers was present.
RON MOVED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE JANUARY 2, 2003 AS PRINTED.
SECONDED BY SHARON. MOTION CARRIED.
Jean read out loud a letter, written by Elaine Norin, to the new members of OHPC. The letter provided
insight to what the commission has accomplished and suggested future projects. Jean will provide
copies of the letter for Ron, Joy, Sharon, and Jerry.
Cemetery:
After a discussion of how to proceed with the cemetery, it was determined OHPC has completed its
duty to the cemetery by having it rezoned and by initiating the City Council designation of the cemetery
as a Heritage Preservation Site. OHPC would better serve the city by moving onto other projects. The
Cemetery Association should be providing prepetual care, which would include repair of old head
stones. Joel would be willing to survey the cemetery and determine the extent of work that would need
to be done to repair the gravesites.
JEANNINE MOVED TO CHANGE FUTURE MEETING TIMES TO 7:00 P.M. SECONDED BY
RON.
Sharon read a letter from the Planning Commission asking for assistance from the OHPC in naming
future parks. RON MOVED THAT MEMBERS COME TO THE NEXT MEETING WITH A LIST
OF GENERAL STATEMENTS/CRITERIA THAT COULD BE USED TO DETERMINE
APPROPRIATE NAMES. MOTION SECONDED.
The Peavy/Mcdonald house is vacant. The city asked OHPC to consider using the house for future
meetings. In March, we will meet at city hall at 7:00 and then proceed to the Peaw house for a
tour. A move to the Peavy house would require a purchase of items. A partial list includes: office
furniture, fireproof safe, duplication and offsite storage of some records/pictures, possible alarm
system. In addition, questions about insurance and cleaning of the facilities were mentioned.
ELECTIONS FOR 2003:
• CHAIR - RON BLACK
• VICE CHAIR - SHARON CARTER
• SECRETARY - JEAN SCHNEIDER
Jeannine will take charge of the monthly book report.
Sharon will contact city hall to have the OHPC flyer updated with new member names and request to
have the computer/scanner fixed.
JEANNINE MOVED TO ADJOURN, RON SECONDED. THE MEETING ADJOURNED AT 8:06.
We will meet again on Thursday, March 27, 2003 at 7:00 P.M. at City Hall.
Respectfully submitted,
Sharon Carter, Secretary
