07-24-03 OHPC MINMeeting of the City of Otsego Heritage Preservation Commission Thursday, July 24, 2003 Members Present: Sharon Carter, Jeannine Christensen, Joy Swenson, Chris Wilson, Jean Schneider Members Absent: Ron Black (excused), Joel Coles (excused) Guest: Dan Scharber, City Council Member Call to Order: On behalf of Chair person, Ron Black, the meeting was called to order at 7:06p.m. by Sharon Carter. Motion was seconded and carried. Approval of Agenda and Minutes: Minutes of June 26, 2003 and the Agenda for July 24, 2003 were approved, seconded and carried. Book Sales Report: Jeannine Christensen submitted the July 24, 2003 report regarding book sales to date. Discussion of the book titled "Women in the Wilderness" presented the need to restore the textbook. A possible solution considered was to scan the book. Chris Wilson suggested having the book retyped. Jeannine Christensen motioned to have the book retyped by a professional with the cost for the service not to exceed $150. Chris Wilson seconded the motion and it was carried by all. Old Business: Budget discussions presented a list of possible expenses as follows: - Justice of the Peace, Otsego Township - Transcribing - Festival Printing services (books, etc.) - Photographs indexed Fix computer Signage of designating historical sites, etc. Heritage Festival: The theme will be "The Family Farm Years." Time: 12:00 — 4:00 FYI -- Rose Cassady is in charge of the Otsego Festival. New Business Heritage Festival Assignments: Sharon Carter submitted a detailed plan for the Heritage Festival. - Refreshments — Jean Schneider - Invitations — Jeannine Christensen - Book Sale Table — Ron Black (voted in) (Books may or may not be available - undecided) - Handouts — OHPC - Children's activities - Jeanine Christensen - Pictures — Joel Coles (voted in) - Displays — Chris Wilson & Sharon Carter Other Business Joy Swenson will bring "How to Interview" tapes to our next meeting. Sharon Carter interviewed Loretta Moos for 4 % hours. Joy Swenson brought in the diary of Olive Davis dated 1949. She owned one of the largest dairy farms during that period in time. During our September meeting we will discuss whether we want to, or have permission to, type her diary. We will also discuss photos of ancestors. Adjournment Jean Schneider moved to adjourn.
