Item 5.1 Review of Park Plans Item 5.1 1 TO: Parks and Recreation Commission FROM: Ross Demant, Parks and Recreation Director DATE: January 13, 2022 RE: 2022 Park Project Outline Background Information The approved 2022 CIP identifies several projects that are in the planning phase. The proposed project outline is listed below for review and consideration. Gabrielle from HKGI will be present at the meeting and be providing a presentation outlining these projects and doing an initial review of some of the conceptual designs for some of the projects. 1. River Access a. River access survey review/ Receive feedback to use concept plan and cost estimate i. Commission Meeting-January 2022 b. Review and refine concept plan and cost estimate for potential Council recommendation i. Administrative Sub-Committee 2022 ii. Commission Meeting-February 2022 c. Review concept plan and cost estimate for potential Council approval i. Council Meeting-First Meeting in March 2022 d. Submit DNR Outdoor Rec Grant for 2023 Consideration i. Grant Submittal Deadline of March 31, 2022 e. Construction i. Spring of 2023 2. School Knoll Park a. Discuss plans for updated tennis, basketball, and playground i. Commission Meeting-January 2022 b. Prairie Park Master Plan & Land Acquisition a. Timeline dependent on City Hall/ PW timeframe 4. Wayfinding Project a. Inventory current signage and branding (January-March) i. Provide map of City showing where existing signs are located ii. Image Inventory of existing signs iii. Definitions of Wayfinding, City Brand, and other values associated with signage iv. Define Sign Types & Hierarchy v. Gather images and examples of above sign types from other communities vi. Identify goals for Phase 1 Signage Implementation vii. Review Findings 1. Develop a preferred sign type hierarchy and preferred sign designs. Material selection and placement will be finalized to develop high level cost estimates for implementation. ii. Assemble the preferred sign type hierarchy, sign designs, maps, and costs into a plan document that will guide park and trail signage implementation 1. Administrative Sub-Committee-July 2022 2.
