BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
The 2022 Fleet Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) includes the purchase of an asphalt mill. This attachment
would be used on the skid loaders for miscellaneous blacktop repairs. The model that will work with the
current machine is the CAT PC306. The mill has a fully adjustable 24” rotating carbide head that allows
staff to make very clean, structurally sound and efficient repairs to the pavement surface.
The City has rented this machine in the past to make repairs around catch basins, cross cracks, gutter lines,
etc. but the rental rate for this machine exceeds $300 per day and the City usually rents this machine the
machine for weeks at a time and that rental rate adds up and costs staff valuable time reserving, cleaning
and transporting the attachment.
Staff has requested state contract quotes form Ziegler CAT for the CAT PC306 and received a quote of
$18,916. This amount is within the 2022 CIP budgeted amount of $25,000.
The Public Works Subcommittee was presented with this information at its February 16 meeting and
recommended that it be placed on consent agenda.
