06-28-1983 Special Meeting MinutesState of Minnesota The Town Board of the Town of Otsego met this
County of Wright 28th Day of June, 1983, Floyd Roden, Chairman;
Town of Otsego Douglas Lindenfelser and William Schulz, Super-
visors; Jerome Perrault, Clerk; Robert Middagh,
Elk River City Administrator and Phyllis Boedighemer, Elk River,
Deputy Clerk.
Chairman Floyd Roden called the meeting to order and opened the
meeting to discussion of the Fire Department Service Contract the
Township has with the city of Elk River, MN.
The Town Board questioned one paragraph of the contract which
states that if a fire occurred in the City while the fire dent. was
on call to a fire in Otsego, the fire dept. could return to the fire
in Elk River and leave the fire in Otsego. The City Administrator
said it was necessary to have the clause in the contract for their
own protection, however it WAS unlikely that it would ever occur.
agreement was reached between the City Administrator and the
Town Board to add the following clause to the fire contract:
In the event re-assignment of equipment and personnel was nec-
essary, the City fire cheif will provide a reduced number of City per-
sonnel or assistance from another fire department to fight the Township
fire.
The Board asked what the possibilities are for the City billing
the Township at a higher rate and eliminating the standby contract fee
charge. The City Administrator replied that it was a possiblity but
it could end up costing the Township more money. He said he would
look into the plan and report back to the Board on his conclusion and
he would also like to present the same proposal to the other commun-
ities served by the City of Elk River Fire Department.
The City Administrator and the Board also discussed fire contract
standby fee payments. The Township paid a contract fee for 1982 of
$8,037.38 but due to an error in computing, the valuation by the Wright
County Assessor's Office, the correct amount should have been $9,288.02
and an additional $1,250.64 is due. For the 1981 contract, the Town-
ship paid $6,915.85 and the City billed the Township $8037.38, leaving
a balance due of $1,121.53. Because of uncertainty of the correct
assessment valuation for the year 1980 payable in 1981 ( which the 1981
contract is based on), Mrs. Boedigheimer agreed to check with the
Wright County Assessor's Office to obtain the correct 1980 payable in
1981 assessed valuation figure and bill the Township accordingly.
On motion the meeting adjourned.
